BRANDON — Four Burns Middle School students, ages 12 to 14, have been arrested on child pornography charges after one secretly recorded a girl in a sex act and the others posted it online, authorities said Friday.

The girl was with a 12-year-old Valrico boy in a dressing room on March 18 at a JCPenney in Brandon, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office reported. As she performed a sex act on the boy, he recorded it.

In the days that followed, the boy sent the video to a 14-year-old Brandon boy through a social media chat application, the Sheriff's Office said. That boy posted the video to Instagram.

Two 12-year-old girls, both from Valrico, later posted the video to their own Instagram accounts, the agency said.

On March 27, the mother of the girl in the video contacted the Sheriff's Office, which began an investigation.

The four were arrested Friday and booked in Hillsborough County's Juvenile Assessment Center. They each face charges that include production of child pornography and transmission of child pornography.

The Tampa Bay Times is not naming the four because of their ages.
