PORT RICHEY — Sometimes exploding dye packs help police capture a bank robber.

Other times, the arrest is a lot less messy.

Such was the case in Port Richey Wednesday when a deputy saw a bank robbery suspect walking down the street counting money.

According to the Pasco Sheriff's Office, Steve L. Coley Jr. walked into the Bank of America at 8338 Embassy Boulevard about 1:45 p.m. and tried to open an account. Coley, 36, of Port Richey, provided a Florida driver's license but was told he needed $25 to open an account, which he apparently did not have, so he left, deputies said.

About an hour later, investigators say, Coley returned, demanded money from a teller and left with an undisclosed amount of cash. A responding deputy saw Coley walking down the street counting cash. He matched the description of the robber and the money he had on him matched what was taken from the bank, deputies said.

Coley, of Port Richey, was arrested and booked into the Land O'Lakes Detention Center.
