Funeral Mass scheduled for couple slain in Avila

TAMPA — A funeral Mass for a couple found shot to death last week at their Avila mansion is scheduled to be celebrated this afternoon.

Family members will receive visitors from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. Mass. The visitation and Mass will be at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 5225 N Himes Ave., in Tampa.

Interment will be private. The family asked that instead of flowers, people make donations to the All Children's Hospital Foundation, for pulmonary cystic fibrosis, at 500 Seventh Ave. S, St. Petersburg, FL 33701.

Debra, 55, and Dr. Hector Rivera, 76, were shot to death on Jan. 9 at their home north of Tampa. An assistant in Debra Rivera's jewelry and handbag business faces first-degree murder charges in the deaths.
