CLEARWATER — The grandfather of a 7-year-old girl whose father is accused of killing her grandmother was granted temporary custody of the child this week.
On Feb. 24, 34-year-old Matthew Lohoski killed his 59-year-old mother, Deborah, in the back yard of her home at 1709 El Trinidad Drive E in Clearwater while his daughter played inside, police said. Matthew Lohoski had full custody of the girl at the time.
He was charged with first-degree murder and remains at the Pinellas County jail as the custody of his daughter is decided.
After Deborah's slaying, the girl's grandfather, Edward Lohoski, was granted temporary custody of the girl. They are staying at the house on El Trinidad Drive E, according to Margaret O'Neill, a family law attorney involved in the case.
