TAMPA — A gun doesn't always equal having the upper hand. One would-be robber learned that lesson early Friday morning when he approached four men sitting outside Rick's Italian Cafe' at 214 E Davis Islands Blvd. The masked robber approached the men, who were sitting at an outside table at 2:40 a.m., and began pulling out a loaded .45 caliber handgun, according to a police report. The men, sensing they were being robbed, attacked the masked man and were able to hold him until Tampa Police arrived. Officers arrested Richard E. Gibbs, 30, of 2901 W Cleveland St. and charged him with attempted armed robbery, carrying a concealed firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm, wearing a mask, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police also found out Gibbs was wanted in Brevard County on another charge of being a felon in possession of firearm. Hi gun was taken into evidence.
