NEW PORT RICHEY — An 11-year-old student at Gulf Middle School is accused of cornering a boy in a bathroom stall and attempting to set him on fire with a homemade flame thrower.

The suspect — whose identity the Times withheld due to his age — aimed a can of Old Spice body spray at the victim and lit the spraying stream, according to the New Port Richey Police Department. The incident happened at 9:35 a.m. Friday at Gulf Middle School, 6419 Louisiana Ave. The victim was trapped in the bathroom stall "and could not run from the flame," a report states.

The victim was not burned or seriously injured. His pants caught fire briefly and were not damaged, just discolored from the flames, police said. The hair on his arm was singed.

The suspect was arrested Friday afternoon and charged with aggravated battery. He was taken into juvenile custody.
