Hernando authorities seek transient man who sexually battered and threatened woman

BROOKSVILLE — Hernando County authorites on Friday were looking for a transient man who they say sexually battered and threatened a woman Thursday night near Brooksville.

Arrest warrants were issued for Allen Everett Koonce, 47, for three counts of sexual battery while armed and false imprisonment. Koonce, who is from Hernando County, may be staying in a transient camp, authorities said, and might be armed with a knife.

He was described as a white man, about 5-foot-6 and 135 pounds. He has red hair and green eyes.

In a news release, the Hernando Sheriff's Office said Koonce called a 62-year-old woman about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and asked her to meet him at a mutual friend's house near Brooksville. The woman assists homeless people from time to time, authorities said.

When the woman arrived at the house, Koonce grabbed her, handcuffed her, sexually battered and beat her, and threatened her with a knife and rifle. No one ele was in the house.

Early Friday morning, after Koonce fell asleep, the woman was able to escape and call authorities. She was taken to the hospital, treated for injuries and released.

Anyone with information about Koonce's whereabouts is asked to call 911.
