Hernando bank robbery suspect tells of recent holdup at beauty salon

BROOKSVILLE — A man accused of robbing a bank on Monday has told investigators he took part in an armed robbery of a beauty salon earlier in the week, authorities said.

Demetrio Crespo, 42, of Spring Hill, was arrested Monday in connection with robbing the Bank of America branch at 7184 Mariner Blvd. On Wednesday, an arrest report states, he admitted to authorities that he helped with the Saturday robbery of the High Point Beauty Salon on Cortez Boulevard.

Authorities say that Crespo and Raymond Dawson, 23, of Spring Hill, stole $300 from the salon. Dawson, a report states, went into the business wearing a mask and carrying a .38-caliber pistol. After grabbing cash from a register, he fled and the store's video surveillance camera showed him getting into a Ford Explorer driven by Crespo.

Crespo told authorities that he and Dawson committed the robbery to feed their drug habit, the report states. He added that they chose the salon at random after driving around for some time.
