Store manager accused of thefts

A convenience store manager is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from his employers by skimming money off the top of bank deposits.

Edgard Torres, 41, of 11393 Quill Ave., Weeki Wachee, is charged with grand theft. Police said he made four deposits at Wachovia Bank between Feb. 19 and Feb. 24 that were thousands of dollars less than the amounts marked on deposit slips and the company's deposit log.

Police believe Torres kept about $5,700 for himself from money collected at the Circle K at 1001 E Tarpon Ave. in Tarpon Springs. Another $12,370 in deposits is missing from a Circle K in Palm Harbor, which Torres also managed, according to an arrest report. Torres was released from the Pinellas County Jail after posting bail Monday night.
