BROOKSVILLE — An 18-year-old was arrested on Friday morning after police say he shot a flare gun into the home of a sleeping man.

Brooksville police said Jachob Hollenbeck of Spring Hill was in his car on Garden Street with a flare gun when a man awoke to a burning projectile that shattered his window. The "bang" woke him up and the object flew over him, he told investigators. A neighbor told police she saw a purple car driving down the street at the time of the shot around 4:30 a.m.

Officers were able to find the car a short time later near S. Mildred Avenue and Martin Luther King Boulevard. Hollenbeck was inside.

After questioning, police charged him with one count of shooting or throwing a deadly missile. He was taken to the Hernando County Jail, where he is being held on a $10,000 bail.
