Hernando Sheriff's Office looking for fraud victims

SPRING HILL — Two transient men have been arrested on multiple counts of organized fraud, and the Hernando County Sheriff's Office is interested in hearing from other victims.

According to authorities, James Guastaferro, 55, and Harold Roe, 43, have traveled throughout the country committing fraud from local hotels and motels. In Hernando County, Guastaferro and Roe would call residents as repairmen or lawn service businesses, then bill them for work that was never ordered or done. Both men would often collect payments in advance, but never complete any work, authorities said, and none of the business names used by the men ever existed.

Hernando authorities said Guastaferro and Roe have been charged with similar counts in other states.

The Sheriff's Office could not say Wednesday how many victims have been identified in Hernando County and how much money was involved.

Anyone who believes they might have been a victim is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at (352) 754-6850.
