Hillsborough, Clearwater to collect unused prescription drugs

Law enforcement in Clearwater and Hillsborough County will collect used and expired prescription drugs Saturday as part of the Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

In Hillsborough, unused prescription drugs can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at five SweetBays.

Volunteers with the Hillsborough County Anti-Drug Alliance will distribute educational materials about prescription drug abuse.

The effort is intended to prevent potentially dangerous drugs from falling into the wrong hands, the Sheriff's Office says. The drugs can be dropped off anonymously.

The participating SweetBay locations are 5320 Ehrlich Road, 17605 Bruce B. Downs Blvd., 5050 10th Ave. E, 2525 N Dale Mabry Highway and 2100 West Swann Ave.

The Clearwater Police Department's dropoff will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Westfield Countryside mall, 27001 U.S. 19 N. No biohazards or needles will be accepted. For information, call (727) 562-4333.
