Hillsborough County teacher arrested for hitting a woman with a laundry basket

TAMPA — A Hillsborough County middle school teacher was arrested Friday night in Riverview, accused of whacking a 71-year-old woman several times with a laundry basket and throwing a pair of shoes at her chest.

William Allen Vlasic, 61, who teaches social studies at Shields Middle School, got into a dispute around 8 p.m. at a residence in the in the 9600 block of Pine Ridge Ave., with a woman whose name and relationship were not released, according to an arrest report from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

The report states that after Vlasic attacked her, the woman reached for her phone to call 911. But Vlasic wrestled the phone out of her hands. The woman suffered no serious injuries, aside from a swollen finger on her left hand.

Vlasic faces charges of battery on a victim over age 65 and tampering with a witness.
