Hillsborough deputies investigating Saturday shooting death

TAMPA — Deputies are investigating the death of a 38-year-old man who was fatally shot after playing a game of chess on Saturday afternoon, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

The shooting took place in the Palm River/ClairMel near Libby Lane and Deerfield Lane, according to deputies, just east of U.S. 301. Deputies did not give a time for the shooting, but said it happened in the afternoon.

Thomas Edward Walker, of 8207 Laguna Lane in Tampa, was sitting at the corner with an unidentified witness. Deputies said Walker was walking away when a vehicle drove by and opened fire on Walker.

Walker was struck down, deputies said, and found laying dead in the roadway.
