TAMPA — Sixteen minutes.
That's how long Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies said it took from the time 22-year-old Marcus Wayne Hunt was released from jail until he committed his next crime.
"I've not heard of any turn-around time that quick," said Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Debbie Carter.
Hunt, a felon with a lengthy criminal history, was arrested Saturday on charges of fleeing and attempting to elude police and not having a valid driver's license.
He was released from the Orient Road Jail at 4:22 p.m. that day after posting $2,250 bail.
Sixteen minutes later, and 1.4 miles away, he walked up to 34-year-old Ernest Blanton-Gladden near 78th Street and Gray Moss Lane in Palm River, deputies said. He struck him in the face and stole his bike, worth $190.
Deputies later identified Hunt and issued a warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody Tuesday at 8708 Fish Lake Road, his address, on a robbery charge. Bail was set at $25,000.
Records show Hunt was released from prison in December after serving a little more than two years in the Florida Department of Corrections prison system.
