TAMPA — Hillsborough County deputies were investigating a double homicide at a home in the exclusive Avila community Monday night, sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said.
The names of the victims had not yet been released.
It began to unfold at 7:53 p.m., she said, when a deputy responded to two calls about a home on Taray De Avila in the neighborhood. The first call was about shots being fired, she said.
But the deputy backed out when he saw two bodies, and authorities were awaiting a search warrant late Monday to enter the home.
"It's definitely a homicide," Carter said.
Authorities did not activate reverse 911 calls to warn neighbors of any suspect, she said, and were not searching Monday night for anyone.
Avila is a gated community in north Tampa that's home to some of the area's most expensive mansions. Among others, corporate raider Paul Bilzerian, former Tampa Bay Rays manager Lou Piniella and New York Yankee Jorge Posada have called it home.
