Hillsborough Fire lieutenant arrested on domestic battery charge

WESLEY CHAPEL — A Hillsborough County Fire Rescue lieutenant was arrested early Wednesday on a charge of domestic battery by strangulation.

Deputies arrived to Christopher Mark West's home after his girlfriend sent several text messages to friends for help around 3 a.m., a Pasco sheriff's report states. She ran from the home in "a clear state of panic and fear," according to the report, with hand marks on her neck and eye.

She told deputies West held her down on the bathroom floor and covered her mouth, the report states. West, 31, told deputies he was having an argument with his girlfriend, but said the only physical contact between them was "hugging and calming," according to the report.

West, of 2155 Pantucket Drive, was arrested and taken to the Land O'Lakes jail. He was released that night on $1,500 bail.
