Hillsborough jail deputy foils attempted murder suspect who tries to use fake identity

TAMPA — It wasn't a $1,000 reward that brought a man accused of attempted murder to the Orient Road Jail.

Arturo Zertuche, 23, of Riverview was arrested by the Plant City Police Department on petty theft charges. He tried to use a fake name to be booked under at the jail Monday, authorities say.

But Zertuche couldn't fool one detention deputy who recognized his face from the Crime Stoppers website.

Zertuche is accused of pointing a gun at a man's head in a fight in Gibsonton in 2009. The victim said Zertuche shot him in the back as he tried to escape.

Now, the list of charges against Zertuche has grown and includes two counts of attempted murder.
