Hillsborough man arrested after 186 pounds of marijuana plants found in grow house

VALRICO — The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrested a man accused of keeping a marijuana grow house worth about $140,000.

Detectives obtained a warrant and arrested Felipe Tamayo Hernandez, 51, on Saturday afternoon at his home on Clareside Drive in Valrico, according to Debbie Carter, a Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.

Detectives seized 20 marijuana plants weighing a total of 186 pounds. They also discovered a sophisticated lighting and irrigation system for the plants with a second air conditioning unit to keep the garage cool.

Hernandez was accused of manufacturing marijuana, trafficking in marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and grand theft of electricity.

He was being held in jail on bail of $29,500.
