A Hillsborough County woman was charged with taking more than $65,000 meant for her mother's nursing home care for personal use, the Attorney General's office said Friday.
Officials said Rosalinda Rivera abused her role as power of attorney for her elderly and disabled mother by taking the money intended for her mother's care. She also stopped paying the out-of-pocket share of her mother's nursing home care, the Attorney General's office said.
Rivera is charged with exploitation of an elderly person and grand theft from a person age 65 years or older. She could face up to 20 years in prison and $15,000 in fines if convicted, officials said.
