Holiday man accused in Clearwater bank robbery

CLEARWATER — Police have arrested a Holiday man in connection with the robbery of a Bank of America branch in Clearwater a week ago.

Robert Ashcroft, 52, is charged with one count of robbery in the July 31 incident at 1911 N Belcher Road.

Ashcroft was not armed at the time of the crime but gave the teller a note demanding money and telling her someone was watching, police said. Photos from surveillance cameras at the bank provided a clear image of the robbery suspect.

Detectives followed up on leads to track down Ashcroft, who was arrested Thursday afternoon. Police said he confessed to the crime. He was being transported to the Pinellas County jail Thursday evening.
