Hudson man dead in ATV crash

SHADY HILLS — A 23-year-old man is dead after his ATV crashed into a tree early Saturday morning in Pasco County.

Zankhrill Phillips, of Hudson, was driving his 2006 Honda ATV north on Kelly Road when he missed a curve near Aubrey Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Phillips drove onto the shoulder and hit a tree, the FHP said. They were found about 6:30 a.m.

Phillips and his passenger, Thomas Allen Carmack, 21, of Hudson, were both ejected from the vehicle, a report states.

Phillips died at the scene. Carmack was flown to Bayfront Medical Center in critical condition. Whether or not alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash remains under investigation, the FHP said.
