Human bone spurs search of Tampa construction site

TAMPA — The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office was searching a construction site after a dog walker discovered a human bone over the weekend.

A person called the Sheriff's Office on Saturday after finding the bone on the construction site at Providence Lake Boulevard, deputies said.

Investigators determined the bone is a human femur, but it was unknown whether it belonged to a man or woman. It was turned over to Florida Department of Law Enforcement for DNA tests.

Since Saturday, officials from the Sheriff's Office, University of South Florida and the county maintenance department have sifted through the construction site, but no other bones have been found, deputies said.

The search is scheduled to continue through the week.
