TAMPA — The Humane Society of the United States is offering $2,500 as a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who shot and partially buried an emaciated dog last month.
Phoebe, a pit bull mix, had two bullet wounds in her head when Hillsborough County Animal Services found her buried up to her neck in the yard of a vacant home in Clair-Mel City.
A tipster had called the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office to report hearing gun shots. The dog's wounds were soft-tissue damage, Animal Services said, and within one week of her rescue Phoebe had added 10 pounds to her frame.
Still, authorities have not found the person who starved, shot or buried the dog.
Anyone with information was asked to call the county's Animal Services at (813) 744-5660.
