ST. PETERSBURG — Police are searching for the suspects who have committed 14 smash-and-grab car burglaries across the city in less than a week.
In the meantime, St. Petersburg police ask people to secure their things in the trunk of their car.
The uptick began May 5, police said. Since then, suspects have smashed vehicle windows at recreation centers, parks and shopping centers to steal purses, electronics and other items left in plain view.
Police said thefts were committed at these locations: Walter Fuller Park, J. W. Cate Recreation Center (also known as Northwest Rec Center), Lake Vista Park, Maximo Park, Fossil Park, Tyrone Square Mall, Best Buy (6600 22nd Ave N) and Bealls (7899 9th St. N).
