Jailed man arrested in hit-and-run

BROOKSVILLE — A Brooksville man once considered a person of interest in last week's slaying of real estate agent Steve Van Slyke has been arrested for a second time this week, this time on several charges related to a hit-and-run accident on Jan. 20.

Herman Andre Johnson Jr., 30, faces charges of fleeing to elude, driving with a suspended license, resisting an officer without violence and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage in Hillside Estates.

Johnson was already in the Hernando County Jail on a cocaine possession charge. He remained behind bars Friday in lieu of bail totaling $9,000.
