BROOKSVILLE — John Kalisz is now scheduled to stand trial on March 8 on charges that he killed a Dixie County sheriff's captain during a shootout on Jan. 14. Kalisz, 55, has pleaded not guilty to the first-degree murder charge in the death of Capt. Chad Reed. The shootout occurred at a gas station in Cross City after Kalisz fled Hernando County, where he has been charged with shooting four women and killing two, including his sister, in a Brooksville home. Killed were his sister Kathryn Donovan, 61, and co-worker Deborah Tillotson, 59. Kalisz also is accused of critically wounding his niece, Manessa Donovan, 18, and Amy Wilson, 33, an employee at Kathryn Donovan's home business, in the initial shooting rampage. Kalisz is scheduled for a status hearing on the Hernando County charges on Dec. 29.
