Lakeland woman set ablaze dies months after attack

LAKELAND — Family members say a woman who was set on fire by her husband earlier this year died Saturday at Tampa General Hospital.

Megan Kimbrough, 26, who had been recuperating from severe burns since the Aug. 3 incident, died after infections set in, relatives said.

Kimbrough's husband, Joshua Kimbrough, 32, remains in the Polk County Jail without bail and faces an attempted first-degree murder charge and other counts. Lakeland detectives were in contact with the State Attorney's Office about further charges.

According to police, Joshua Kimbrough had doused his wife with a chemical in an abandoned Lakeland house and set her on fire. She ran from the house covered in flames, police said, and stayed conscious long enough to tell them what had happened.
