TAMPA — A Largo elementary school art teacher was arrested Wednesday night on charges of driving under the influence, fleeing to elude arrest and possession of marijuana.
A sheriff's deputy tried to pull over 55-year-old Luann K. Fernandez of 16604 Meadow Grove St. at about 8:45 p.m. for several traffic violations, according to an arrest affidavit.
Fernandez is an art teacher at Southern Oak Elementary, 9101 Walsingham Road.
The deputy had his vehicle's lights and sirens turned on, but Fernandez wouldn't stop, instead speeding up and driving off, the affidavit states.
The deputy caught up to her as she pulled into her driveway. Fernandez performed a field sobriety test, and the deputy said she showed multiple signs of impairment.
Fernandez then asked to go inside her home to get a jacket, and she allowed the deputies in with her. Deputies said that when they went inside, they spotted a bottle of marijuana and confiscated it.
She was freed on $3,000 bail.
