LARGO — A 72-year-old man accused of downloading child pornography was arrested Wednesday, police said.
In December, Charles Chase Burleigh of Largo contacted police to report his computer had acquired a virus that "informed him that he had child pornography in his computer" and ordered him to pay $300 to have it unlocked.
When Largo police conducted a forensics search of the computer, they found 20 images of child pornography and nearly 3,000 images of child erotica, according to an arrest affidavit.
During an interview with detectives, Burleigh admitted to downloading the images "out of curiosity," the affidavit states.
He faces a charge of possession of child pornography.
Burleigh was booked into the Pinellas County jail, but was released Wednesday night on $5,000 bail.
