LARGO — A 48-year-old man was charged with murder after police found his girlfriend strangled on Friday.
Lawrence Edward Gilligan was first charged with aggravated domestic battery, but police added a first degree murder charge following the result of Lisa Wells' autopsy on Saturday. Detectives said Wells also suffered from blunt-force trauma.
Wells, 47, and Gilligan lived together in an apartment at 7001 142nd Ave. N, police said.
Wells' body was found inside their home.
Gilligan has a long arrest record and has been charged with domestic battery as well as impersonating a police officer. He's being held in Pinellas County Jail without bail.
