LARGO — A 24-year-old woman was arrested Monday and charged with felony child neglect after her 5-month-old daughter was hospitalized with a broken arm.
Ruth Beltran was being held at the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bond Tuesday.
The baby was taken to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg with a broken arm on Feb. 20, Largo police said. Medical personnel determined that the baby had several old injuries, including a fractured skull, ankle and knee.
Beltran told authorities that she was alone with the baby and her 2-year-old son when the baby's arm was broken.
She said she had gone to heat up a bottle of milk and that the baby must have fallen off a bed or was pulled off by her son. When she returned to the bedroom five minutes later, the baby was face down on the carpeted floor, Beltran said.
A doctor said the injuries could not have been caused by a 2-year-old, according to an arrest report.
