Largo police: babysitter suffered seizure thanks to drugs, alcohol

LARGO — A 26-year-old Clearwater woman was charged with two felony counts of child neglect after police said she imbibed so much alcohol and drugs that she had a seizure while she was supposed to be watching two young children while their guardian was away.

The incident took place around 4 p.m. on March 29, according to a Largo police report. The babysitter, Tonya Gayheart, was taken to a hospital after the seizure. Police did not disclose her relationship to the children or identify the two children, ages 3 and 12.

Child protection investigators took custody of the children.

Gayheart, of 1309 Melonwood Ave. in Clearwater, was arrested Tuesday night and was being held Wednesday in the Pinellas County jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
