Largo police find cocaine in abandoned car at gas station

LARGO — Police say they have arrested a Largo man on a drug trafficking charge after discovering 230 grams of cocaine in his car, which was left unattended at a gas station.

Keire Harvey, 23, is being questioned about his "connections to other violent crimes in the area that he may possibly be linked to," according to a Largo Police Department press release. He was being held on $105,500 bail at the Pinellas County Jail.

Police said they received a call Tuesday afternoon about a suspicious black Toyota left unattended at the Hess gas station at 2930 East Bay Dr. in Largo. Officers saw narcotics in the vehicle and performed a search, discovering the sizable cache of cocaine, police said.

Harvey was identified as the car's owner and arrested. He has previously been arrested in Pinellas County on charges including home invasion robbery and kidnapping, jail records show.

Police ask that anyone with information about Harvey call Largo police detective Brendan Arlington at (727) 586-7776.

  3. Editorial: Fix funding unfairness in Florida foster care system

Many of the children in Florida's foster care system already have been failed by their parents. The last thing these kids need is to be failed by bureaucracy, too, and yet that's exactly what appears to be happening because of a needlessly rigid funding formula set up by the Florida Legislature. The Legislature may have had good intentions when it came up with the funding plan, but it’s obvious that there is some unfairness built into it. The funding may be complicated, but the goal is simple: Making sure every child in need gets the help he or she needs.
