LITHIA — A 30-year-old man is in jail after deputies say he beat a female acquaintance with a baseball bat and then raped her with it.

Tyler Mathew Bair, of Welcome Road in Lithia, faces charges of aggravated battery, sexual battery and false imprisonment

The assault happened at his home at about 4 a.m. Friday, according to an arrest affidavit. After the attack, Bair prevented the woman from leaving the house and took away her cell phone, Hillsborough sheriff's deputies said, but she managed to escape and call police.

Bair was arrested two days later, at about 7 p.m. Sunday.

The affidavit states Bair has been violent to the woman in the past. He is being held without bail at the Hillsborough County Jail.
