ST. PETERSBURG — Bay Vista Fundamental Elementary School was placed on precautionary lockout Wednesday afternoon after a nearby armed robbery attempt, according to police.
The lockout ended shortly before 3 p.m. By that time, many parents were waiting outside to pick up their children at the 2:15 final bell.
The incident happened about 1:30 p.m. in the 800 block of 62nd Avenue S., police said. During the robbery attempt, a lone man produced a handgun and fired at least one round, which grazed a victim. Two other victims were not injured.
The suspect fled the scene after discharging the gun. No arrests were reported. There was no evidence to suggest the suspect made his way to the school.
