Man accused of biting police chief at Daytona's Bike Week

DAYTONA BEACH — Police say their chief was injured while making an arrest at Bike Week.

Chief Mike Chitwood was treated at a hospital for a broken right hand and finger, deep cuts to his finger and a gash on his forehead, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

A police report shows that Michael Dangelo of Daytona Beach approached Chitwood on the street Saturday and made a threatening remark.

Police say Dangelo then spit on Chitwood as the chief turned to walk away. Dangelo then bit Chitwood's hand as the chief then tried to arrest him. The two struggled and fell to the ground.

Dangelo faces two felony counts and a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. Jail records Sunday did not show whether he had an attorney.
