Man accused of poaching deer in rural Hillsborough County

A Polk County man was arrested last week in rural southeastern Hillsborough County on a charge that he illegally poached deer.

Dalton W. Gant, 19, of Mulberry faces a charge of armed trespassing on private property, stemming from allegations that he was illegally hunting for deer out of season.

Deputies were patrolling for deer poachers Friday in the area of Bethlehem and Albritton roads, sheriff's officials said. In a wooded area, they came across a vacant pickup with hunting equipment and a skinned deer carcass in the truck bed. Deputies also searched the truck and found several knives and other weapons

Authorities searched the area and found Gant, who was arrested and cited for taking and possessing game out of season. He was booked in the Hillsborough County jail and later released on $2,000 bail.
