Man accused of robbing Clearwater credit union

Times staff

CLEARWATER — Police arrested a man Thursday in connection with an armed robbery at a credit union last month.

The robbery was reported June 13 about 9:30 a.m., when a man entered the City County Employees Credit Union at 719 S Missouri Ave. with a firearm and demanded money from a teller, Clearwater police said.

Detectives with the robbery unit later identified 37-year-old Anthony Eugene Sutton as the armed robber. They interviewed him Thursday while he was in the Pinellas County jail on charges of attempted car theft, fleeing from an officer, and car theft.

Sutton, of St. Petersburg, now also faces an armed robbery charge.

He remained at the jail Friday afternoon in lieu of $260,000 bail.
