Man accused of Town 'N Country robbery now in more trouble

TAMPA — A robbery suspect attacked a deputy Monday and went after his eyes with both thumbs, authorities say.

But after two deputies subdued the man with Tasers, they say they found something on him more worrisome than thumbs: a .32-caliber Colt revolver, with a live round in its chamber.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said the incident began at 4:50 p.m. when a robbery victim flagged down Deputy Felix Moret, 59, near a bus stop at Sheldon Road and Grosse Point Boulevard.

The deputy saw the suspect, identified as Lamont Graddy, 21, fleeing on a bicycle. When Moret caught up, the two clashed. Deputy Dave Burney, 57, arrived as backup. He tried to handcuff Graddy but also met resistance, the agency reported. That's when the Tasers came out.

Graddy was arrested on charges of armed robbery, resisting arrest with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, carrying a concealed firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Graddy served about 15 months in state prison in 2010 and 2011 on theft and burglary convictions, records show.

The deputies, with 34 years of experience between them, were treated for minor injuries.
