Man accused of using knife to break into home in New Port Richey

NEW PORT RICHEY — A 29-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on a charge of armed burglary and aggravated assault after authorities say he used a knife to break into a home on Van Doren Avenue.

Garleh Vayee used the knife to pry open a door of the mobile home and then waved the knife at David Brown, who is renting the unit, according to a Pasco County Sheriff's Office report. Brown ran outside and called 911.

Brown later told deputies he was once engaged to Vayee's sister, the report said.

When deputies arrived on scene, Vayee was inside the mobile home, asleep on a couch, the report said.

Deputies arrested him and took him to the Land O'Lakes jail, where he is being held without bail. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has a hold on Vayee. Reports indicate he is from Africa, although records gave conflicting information about which country.
