Man accused of burglary at Largo jewelry store

LARGO — A homeless man was arrested Wednesday after he stole $12,000 worth of merchandise from a Largo jewelry store, police said.

David Maye, 40, was charged with burglary, dealing in stolen property and aggravated battery, according to records.

Maye was recorded on surveillance video in April smashing the front door at Arnold Jewelers at 12293 Seminole Blvd. and taking watches and collectable coins, according to an arrest report. Police later connected his DNA to a second crime scene.

Maye was arrested at a motel, where police found him with a bandana that matched surveillance footage and a duffle bag that contained broken glass, according to the arrest report.

He remained in the Pinellas County Jail Thursday with bail set at $112,000.
