NEW PORT RICHEY — Police on Monday arrested a man on DUI charges in connection with a Dec. 10 accident that killed Myrtle Knowles Sigmon, 72, of Hudson.

David Wilson Smith of New Port Richey was arrested on charges of DUI-manslaughter and DUI-causing personal injury.

The accident occurred in the 7100 block of U.S. 19, south of Avery Road.

New Port Richey Police said at the time that Smith's car collided with Sigmon's while both were driving north on U.S. 19.

Sigmon's Saturn went over the median and into the southbound lanes, where it was struck by a 2002 Jeep Liberty.

Police on Monday said tests showed Smith's blood alcohol content was 0.10. Florida law presumes impairment at 0.08.
