Man charged with attempted murder in Spring Hill shooting

SPRING HILL — A 21-year-old man faces an attempted murder charge after shooting at a woman in Spring Hill on Monday, deputies say.

Anthony Cruz Rivera fired at Theresa Scott shortly before 7:30 p.m. as she stood in front of a home on the 4200 block of Dristol Avenue, according to Hernando County Sheriff's Office news release.

The release gives this account:

Scott told deputies she got into a heated argument earlier Monday with a woman named Alexandra Clubb at another location in Spring Hill. Scott and Clubb, 23, of Spring Hill, have children by the same man.

Later, Scott was standing in front of a neighbor's house on Dristol when Clubb's Honda Accord drove by several times. Scott saw Clubb point to her house.

When the Honda passed the last time, Scott called to her father, who came out of the house with her two children.

The driver's-side window opened and the driver tried to conceal his face with a cloth. Scott said he pointed a gun in her direction and she heard three or four shots as she ducked for cover. The Honda sped away.

Deputies located the Honda and the driver fled. Deputies found the car again on Stillwater Avenue, where Scott had argued with Clubb earlier in the day. Deputies arrested Rivera and detained Clubb.

Investigators found a spent shell casing from a small-caliber revolver between the dashboard and the windshield.

Rivera denied involvement in the shooting and asked for an attorney. Clubb "made numerous admissions" about her possible involvement and said her children's father likely said something that angered Rivera.

Rivera, who is listed as transient in jail records, was charged with attempted second-degree murder with a firearm and fleeing law enforcement.

He remained in the Hernando County Detention Center on Tuesday in lieu of $15,500 bail.

Clubb was arrested early Tuesday and charged as a principle to attempted second-degree murder.

She remained in jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Records show Rivera was released from state prison in January after serving part of three-year sentence for robbery, battery, carrying a concealed firearm and drug possession.

Clubb has two prior arrests as a juvenile for burglary with battery and petty theft.
