Man charged with robbing Bank of America branch in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG — Police have arrested a man they say robbed a Bank of America on Monday.

Rod L. Hower, 39, of 781 73rd Ave. N in St. Petersburg was charged Tuesday with armed robbery and taken to the Pinellas County Jail.

Authorities say Hower went to the bank at 1135 62nd Ave. N about 9:15 a.m., passed a note to a teller, and got away with an undisclosed amount of money. A citizen tipped police off after recognizing Hower from surveillance photos that were released to media.

Records show Hower was released from prison in 2009 after serving about two years for robbery. Police said Hower robbed the Bank of America at 5701 38th Ave. N in that case.
