Man critical after early morning shooting in south Brooksville

BROOKSVILLE — A 31-year-old man was in critical condition Saturday after an early morning shooting on the south side of Brooksville.

The man, whom authorities did not identify immediately, was in surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa after suffering two gunshot wounds, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Sgt. Donna Black said authorities received a call shortly after 3 a.m. and responded to the Elks Lodge at 510 Dr. M.L. King Jr. Blvd. Deputies found the injured man lying on the ground, and he was flown to St. Joseph's.

Black said detectives were following up leads regarding two possible persons of interest in the case.
