TAMPA — A 46-year-old man was shot to death outside a home on Woodridge Road just after midnight Friday, Hillsborough sheriff's officials said.

Deputies responded to reports of gunfire and found Marcus Jordan, 46, dead on the sidewalk outside 8608 Woodridge Road in the Palm River area.

Monique Hardy, who lives on Woodridge, said gunshots woke her up shortly after midnight, and she went outside to find Jordan lying on the ground, his small white dog standing by his head.

Hardy said Jordan, also known as "T-Money," was often in the neighborhood and had a sister who lived on Woodridge. She said Jordan was well-known among residents — he sometimes accepted rides from her, attended her Memorial Day barbecue and cut neighborhood residents' hair.

"He didn't cause any problems," she said.

According to Florida Department of Corrections records, Jordan spent 14 years in prison on a robbery conviction and was released in September 2013. Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Debbie Carter said Jordan's most recent address is unknown.

Hardy, who moved to Florida three years ago, said the neighborhood is usually very quiet — she had never seen so much as a fight before the late-night shooting.

"I felt safe over here," she said.
