Man found dead at Tampa Days Inn was victim of homicide

TAMPA — A medical examiner's report Sunday concluded that a man found dead at a motel near Busch Gardens was a homicide victim.

Tampa police identified the victim as 28-year-old Brando Julian Masquero. No further information about Masquero, how he was killed or his hometown was released.

Police were dispatched to the Days Inn, 2901 E Busch Blvd., at 11:38 a.m. Saturday after getting a report from the motel.

Investigators at the time deemed Masquero's death as suspicious. Police used yellow caution tape and orange cones to cordon off the crime scene, a corner of a parking lot and a few rooms, as parents and children played nearby in a pool.

The motel's management was not available Sunday to comment. A clerk who answered the phone said the body was found by a housekeeper Saturday when she entered to clean the room.
