A man was found shot outside Club 1 South in St. Petersburg early Thursday, police said.
Police arrived at the club off 1st Avenue South and 19th Street about 2 a.m. after multiple people reported that someone had been shot inside. Club staff and patrons told police balloons or firecrackers were responsible for the "pop" sound.
But police soon found Alfred Whitehead, 27, outside the club with a gunshot wound in his torso. Whitehead was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg and was listed in serious but stable condition Thursday morning.
Police said it's not clear yet where the shooting occurred. Over 100 people were inside the club when police arrived, but said no witnesses have yet offered details to police.
