Man impersonates police to steal prescription drugs, police say

CLEARWATER — A Palm Harbor man pretended to be a police officer to steal drugs and money, police say.

Daniel Raczkowski, 22, and Eric Gandy, 24, invited Shawn Allen Bryant, 30, to have drinks in their room around 4 a.m. Friday at the Economy Inn, 20788 U.S. 19 N, according to Clearwater police.

Inside the room, Bryant claimed to be a police officer, pulled Raczkowski's hands behind his back and demanded the men turn over their pills, police say.

Bryant took $50 in cash and a prescription bottle of several Alprazolam pills, left the room, then returned a few minutes later trying to get back inside, police say. The men called police, and an officer found Bryant in the motel hallway.

Police arrested Bryant and charged him with strong-arm robbery, impersonating a police officer and tampering with a witness. Bryant, of 1553 Nantucket Court, remained in the Pinellas County Jail Friday on $30,000 bail.
